Khmer New Year! (KNY) Khmer New Year, also known as Choul Chnam Thmey, is the traditional New Year celebrated in Cambodia. The holiday usually takes place in mid-April and lasts for three days.
During Khmer New Year, Cambodian people typically engage in various traditional activities such as visiting temples, cleaning and decorating their homes, performing traditional dances, and playing traditional games. One of the most popular games is called “Teang Prot”, which involves throwing a cloth ball back and forth between two teams.
Another important aspect of Khmer New Year is the pouring of scented water, or “Pithi Srang Preah”, which is meant to symbolize purification and the washing away of bad luck from the past year. People also exchange gifts and offer food to monks and the less fortunate.
Overall, Khmer New Year is an important cultural celebration in Cambodia, and it is a time for people to connect with their families, friends, and communities while honoring their traditions and customs.
